Shuhua Zhou, Managing Partner

Shuhua was General Partner at Northern Light VC (NLVC) and led 11 investments across the TMT, cleantech, and consumer sectors. Before NLVC, Shuhua spent 6 years as VP of SINA Corporation where he led the search and e-commerce business unit, negotiated major strategic partnerships with Google and eBay China, and built key relationships with enterprises and the local government. Mr. Zhou also worked at Apple, American Standard and Philips in various management positions within the areas of business development, marketing and strategic planning.

Mr. Zhou holds a Master Degree from Sloan program of Stanford Business School, finished Master Training program from University of Science and Technology of China and BS from Xi’an University of Technology.

Jeff Wang, Partner

Jeff worked as Executive Director of Prudent Energy, a leading energy storage company focusing on VRB (Vanadium Redox Battery technology). He co-founded the company from business plan stage and contributed through a wide range of tasks including team building, business planning, strategy, fund raising and business development, leading Prudent Energy’s acquisition of VRB Power Systems Inc “VRB”, a former TSX-V listed Vancouver Company and technology leader in the market segment in late 2008. By acquiring 100% of VRB’s tangible and intangible assets, 100% of VRB’s key team, (CEO, CTO, and 3 core engineers), Prudent Energy was raised to a worldwide leader in the VRB industry. Mr. Wang deployed an integrated organizational structure and retained 100% of acquired talents without any turnover to date. Ms. Wang also was Co-founder, COO and board director of ChineseAll, by building the business from ground level and developed and launched all key businesses operated by ChineseAll to day. He led ChineseAll’s acquisitions of 3 small start-ups and is well connected along the full industry value chain. Jeff also had worked at Whirlpool as Regional business manager for Whirlpool’s washer business in Southern China and Pepsi as a founding member of Pepsi China BU’s key project -model market.

Mr. Wang holds MBA degree from International MBA program of collaboration between the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University and the MIT Sloan School of Management and BS from Dalian Jiaotong University.

Karen Liu, Partner

Karen Liu has been an active VC investor in China healthcare related sectors in the past 5-6 years, with investment experiences in medical device, drug, diagnostic, service and industrial biotech. Prior to joining Kaiwu, Karen was a Managing Director at CRCI Capital and was responsible for investing in 6 healthcare and life science related companies. Karen was also an early co-founder and angel investor for Shenogen Pharma, an innovative drug discovery and development company developing therapeutics targeting cancer stem cells. From 2000-2004, Karen was an Internet entrepreneur. As a key senior management member at 3721.com, she helped build up the small Internet company to become one of the leading Internet names in China until it was sold to Yahoo in 2004. Karen Liu had worked as a management consultant at McKinsey and & Company Beijing office.

Ms. Liu received her PhD degree in the field of Immunology and Master of Medical Sciences from Harvard Medical School. She also has a Bachelor of Sciences degree from Cornell University and an EMBA degree from the Chung Kong Graduate School of Business in Beijing.

Michael Chen, Partner

Michael was as advisor of WWF China Climate Change Board, one of the largest environment NGOs. Mr. Chen is also the founder of the first carbon credit trading platform in China-GCX. Mr. Chen has completed about~10 IPOs of Chinese companies since 2002 as a founding partner of Sinolion Capital, an investment banking firm in Singapore. He had managed the entire IPO processes, including restructuring, improving corporate governance, arranging ID and CFO, pre-IPO investment as well as public placement. In 2001, he worked at HUAXIA Private Equity as a VP where he managed RMB 1billion and sponsored the largest security firm in China and 7 listed companies in China, including A-share pre-IPO deals. From 1999 to 2000, Michael worked as a VP at SINOBIT, the first incubation platform in China sponsored by News Corporation that has provided incubation services for 1st generation internet giants in China, such as Baidu, Alibaba, Netease and Shanda.

Michael finished EMBA program of Renmin University, Private Equity and Venture Capital training from Harvard Business School and holds MS and BS from North East University.
